Walk-eez is run be me - Trina, my partner Jeremy and ably assisted by our Chocolate Labradors Happy and Brogan. We have been up and running since August 2009.
I started working in a small Golden retriever breeding and boarding kennels 25 years ago undertaking what was then the YTS Scheme, coming away with a City and Guilds in Small Animal Care and The National Small Animal Certificate.
I looked after 11 of our own Goldens, plus boarders which meant a lot of walking, usually with 6 dogs at a time!
My family also became the proud owners of 'Monty', a Golden pup, who was born there and I was lucky enough to have been at the mating and at his birth. He was a handsome, cuddly bear of a dog, was with us for 14 wonderful years and is one of those dogs that was just truly special and will always have a place in our hearts.
I then moved into a rescue kennels and cattery, where I spent 4 years being heartbroken every day, although it was probably one of the most fulfilling jobs I've ever had.
It did lead to me owning MY first dog 'Kane' the German Shepherd, he was a 5 month old bundle of fur, big ears and paws when he captured my heart, arriving as a stray that was never claimed. He wasn't easy and had issues with other dogs but he taught me a lot and together we got through the tough stuff well enough for him to live with numerous dogs throughout his life.
During this time my family also had the joy of owning 'Ember' the Rottweiler, she was the biggest black and tan baby, incredibly loving and had more quirks than any dog I have ever known.
I spent 5 years in the Ambulance Service and although an exciting and rewarding job, it isn't really the most dog friendly career so I had to go dog free for a while, owning 2 cats, 'Beryl' who was diabetic and needed insulin injections twice a day and 'Magoo' the cuddliest most playful boy.
Throughout the years I have taken part in and assisted with numerous training classes and trainers, from Pet Obedience to Agility and Gundog work. All our dogs have attained their Kennel Club Good Citizens Gold Awards.
My love of dogs and the chance to use the knowledge and experience I gained over many years of working with them has always stayed with me and it has been my dream to get back to, so as circumstances allowed, Walk-eez has evolved.
Jeremy is now a regular walker with Walk-eez and has his own group of furry critters that he looks after!
He has always had dogs in his life and they have always been one of his loves along with rugby, cricket and football!
He grew up with Labradors that his aunt bred and spent his childhood with ‘Ricky’ the German Shepherd and ‘Flea’ the Whippet also later on in life owning ‘Lady’ the Black Labrador.
10 years ago he adopted ‘Thelma’ the black cat from his mum as she was being beaten up by the new cat and she has been eternally grateful ever since!
We also got married in June 2016!
Happy, aka Hamster or Hammy, has matured into a wonderful 9 year old and has a lovely calm nature to the point of laziness sometimes.
Happy is also a clown, she really does know when she is making you laugh and plays on it.
She has a stubborn streak a mile wide but is an amazingly adaptable dog and will turn her paw to whatever we ask of her, from working on a shoot in the beating line in winter, to enthusiastically enjoying her agility classes, to visiting lots of people as a Pets as Therapy dog and even to having a stint showing on the green carpet at Crufts 2010,2011 and 2012. Where, in March 2011 & 2012, we are pleased to say we achieved 2nd place in the 'Working Gundog Team' class along with two other gorgeous choccie labs Alfie and Tom who also work on the shoot in the winter.
Happy also passed all three levels of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme
She is truly a fantastic dog and is definitely 'one of those special ones'. We love her to bits despite her being an inveterate scrounger and lover of rolling in fox poo!
-Heartbreakingly we lost our beautiful girl to cancer in August 2016, at only 9yrs she was far too young and we have been lost without her. I can't as yet bring myself to remove her profile, so here she stays, forever a member of the Walk-eez gang.
Brogan, aka Brogie Bear, Bibbs or Squidgey, she is Happy's half sister and came to live with us an 8 month old in Feb 2010 coming from the Wylanbriar Labradors kennel in Worthing, West Sussex.
She is an enthusiastic lover of people, dogs and animals alike and has willingly taken on the role of 'Chief Meeter and Greater' for Walk-eez
Despite her outgoing personality, she can also be amazingly gentle and seems to have a particular affinity with puppies where she has oodles of patience and shows immense care.
She really is such a complex character but also such a sweet natured little girl who loves her cuddles and home comforts. Brogies favourite things in life are swimming and being a working gundog, it's a tough choice to know which she loves more!
As of Oct 2011, Brogie made us very proud when she was accepted as a Pets As Therapy dog too, just like her big sister Happy!!
Spud aka The Love Bundle! Came to live with us aged 8wks at the beginning of December 2016. Our first Working Cocker and an absolute joy.
Full of fun and mischief, she has given us lots of smiles and licked away many a tear, helping heal our hearts after losing our beloved Happy in August.
Spud gives life 100% in everything she does and in true Cocker fashion is 'cheeky' not 'naughty'! She has thoroughly enjoyed meeting all her new furry friends at Walk-eez and it has been great socialisation for her.
